Derivation OMEGA – All Versions

A Little History

Those of you who have been playing MineCraft since at least 2013 may remember a Texture Pack author named Levaunt, who brought us Derivation, a texture pack inspired by fantasy and RPGs. The texture pack made it's debut in 28 May 2011, with the final offical update being 24 Mar 2013. This texture pack was compliant up to version 1.5.2 of MineCraft. A little over a year later,  a work-in-progress version was uploaded 14 Sept 2014 with added textures, and the statement that this was to be Levaunt's final version of the pack:

"It has everything from a patch or two ago; flowers, hard clay, fish, etc. But keep in mind it's very buggy so I wouldn't suggest playing with it. This is mainly for people who want to continue the pack. Good luck!" – Levaunt (minecraftforum.net)

The stagnation of the Derivation texture pack had always been fine with me, since I spent most of my time playing an awesome stand-alone add-on called Better than Wolves by FlowerChild, eternally set in 1.5.2. As BTW developed over the following, FC added more content to his project, and that required continued development of an add-on texture pack exclusively for the stand-alone mod. The Derivation BTW texture pack originated with Kezza of the official BTW forum 29 Dec 2012 for BTW 3.9.7, who continued to keep it current with BTW's development until 20 May 2014 the late update being for BTW 4.9 Marsupial. 

With BTW project still going strong, and no further updates to the Derivaton BTW texture pack, I took the inititive 27 Feb 2014 to carry on with the work on Derivation BTW in Kezza's absence until Jan 11 2018, shortly after the release of BTW 4.A4 Kiloblock Boon – a version which:

"added internal support for extended block IDs beyond the base 256 to facilitate future expansion of the mod" – FC (changelog notes)

With countless new textures added, and promise of many more in the future, it was clearly time for a revamp for the Derivation BTW texture support pack, and upgrade it to a full texture back in it's own right ( had been working on minor changes to the main texture back itself for personal use on the side since 1 Jan 2013) resulting in the birth of Derivation OMEGA which made it's debut in 26 Feb 2018.

Derivision OMEGA

Originating as a dark fantasy variant of Levaunt's Derivation (2011-2014) Derivation OMEGA was later uploaded for the Better Than Wolves community on the offical BTW forums. It has been available and maintained on the BTW forum since Feb 2018, and later uploaded in several versions to minecraftforum.net after feeling some nostaliga for the Minecraft mod Millenaire (2011 onwards) a mod I used to play before I got into BTW. The Millenaire mod had updated to Minecraft version 1.12.2 at that point, and I was faced with the daunting task of having to updated Derivation OMEGA – a texture pack set in MineCraft version 1.5.2 through a ton of expanded content upto 1.12.2

Thankfully, given that I was also maintaining a texture pack add-on for a BTW tie in – The Deco mod (original authour Yhetti, later taken over by Dawnraider) – a lot of the groundwork for a 1.12.2 version was already completed since that mod adds a bunch of later version Vanilla MineCraft textures as optional extras for BTW. Additionally, a lot of the BTW project content had potential crossover options, as later versions of Minecraft added similar features (notably after they had already been featured in BTW)

On the 8 Dec 2020 I uploaded six links for different versions of the Derivation Omega texture pack to minecraftforum.net, including:

1.5.2
Derivation OMEGA Basic – a 1.5.2 version of the texture pack with default textures for vanilla Minecraft
Derivation OMEEGA CTM - a 1.5.2 version of the texture pack with default textures for vanilla Minecraft with added Connected Textures for use with mcpatcher
Better than Wolves Pre-Pack – a 1.5.2 verstion of the CTM texture pack with pre-packed BTW textures
Better than Wolves Pre-Pack Deco – a 1.5.2 verstion of the CTM texture pack with pre-packed BTW textures and Deco textures

These first four versions have now been finalized, and uploaded here to Curse. 

1.12.2

These latter two are reworked versions of the 1.5.2 pack, and the starting point for intended project of add-on texture pack for Millenaire. These 1.12.2 versions are technically still in development, as I still need to do a little more work on 1.12.2 mob models, and any block textures I may have missed. These will be added as soon as the work is done. Please note that when uploaded the 1.12.2 version can safely be used for the current version of Minecraft with the only issue being the initial warning that the pack is not meant intended for the current version, and the lack of any textures added since 1.12.2 (I have already tested this in development for the next version.

Speaking of which, those of you who are enamoured with the Derivation OMEGA dark fantasy theme, rest assured that a 1.16 version has been in development for some time, with only real life commitments delaying it's further development and release. That said, I will be likely skipping the 1.16 version, and simply relase a 1.17 version, or whatever version the game is at by the time work on the project is completed. I am just one guy, after all.

TLDR version

Levaunt started Derivation. Many people tried to keep it going when Levaunt threw in the towel. One of those guys kept it going specifically for a stand-alone mod called Better than Wolves. As an avid player of BTW, and fan of Derivation, I took over when that guy thre in the towel. I kept it going for years for the BTW community. Last few years I got back into Millenaire, and started on a 1.12.2 version. Needed to rework the 1.5.2 version to use as a base for that. Heavily revamped a bunch of textures. Toying with the idea of upgrading for 1.17.1

Current status: 1.5.2 is 100% complete. 1.12.2 is 85% complete. 1.17.1 is 50% complete
