About Dimensional Dungeons

Dimensional Dungeons adds limitless procedurally generated dungeons to Minecraft! These dungeons are all placed in a single, separate dimension which can be accessed from a portal anywhere on the Overworld. This makes the dungeons themselves renewable and it provides challenging, replayable content.

The dungeon dimension limits building and block breaking. This allows for a proper adventure mode-like experience on a survival server. For example, I can use pistons in my traps without giving the player free pistons. Obstacle courses can't be bridged over. Combat can't be trivialized by building fences around mobs. And light and darkness matter when you can't place torches!

Besides challenges in room design the dungeons are also randomly populated with enemies and worthwhile loot! Many rooms with valuable treasure chests require solving a puzzle that will test your knowledge of Minecraft game mechanics. Currently, all of the builds are 'vanilla' and no modded blocks or command blocks are used. The goal is to feel vanilla-lite (or like) and to be fair to the player.

For modpack designers and server admins there is also a powerful new config file which allows for customization of the block protection in the dungeon dimension. As of version 1.09 the rooms themselves are configurable in the common config, meaning that you can remove existing rooms or add custom rooms.

In Game Information

To get started you'll need to build a portal, craft some blank keys, and "activate" your blank keys. This video describes everything.

One million official downloads! Wow I am astonished! I'm glad so many players have decided to make Dimensional Dungeons part of their worlds.
Thank you everyone.

This is my first Minecraft mod and I'm very proud of it, but not too proud to listen. Please report bugs, issues and suggestions anywhere you'd like – either here on Curse, on Github, or in the Dimensional Dungeons Discord. I read every ticket and comment. The Discord also has a lot of information about modding this mod and making it do interesting things in modpacks. If you would like spoilers for the puzzle rooms I'll share those too.

I started work on 1.12 by prioritizing some of your most requested features. And I surprised myself how quickly those things got done. So then I thought, why make everyone wait? This is my fastest update ever and my first major version with no new rooms. But I had a major room update two weeks ago with version 1.11, so that's okay, right? 🙂 I don't usually name my updates but 1.12 is kind of the "modpack compatibility update". There are so many new tools for progression-based modpacks to use. And being able to configure the mobs is fun for everyone.

I'm following 1.17 very closely and I plan on updating as soon as possible! I don't predict that either Forge or myself will have trouble updating. For the moment I plan on updating 1.16.5 and 1.17 once I have 1.17 working. There are some new blocks in 1.17 that I really want to use (the candle and the light block especially) but I don't want to abandon 1.16.5 players because I know there are many players out there who are waiting for 1.18 before they start new worlds.

Permission is automatically granted to use this mod in any modpack. If there is a feature or config setting I can add to make your modpack more interesting just request it in the comments and I'll consider it. I care about mod compatibility very much.

FAQ:

Q: Backports to 1.12 (or any other version) please?

A: I'm sorry but I can't. Long but satisfying explanation below.

Q: Considering other mod loaders?

A: No, sorry. I want to implement better modpack support and add more content first. (I have lots of ideas!) Maybe I'll reconsider when Dimensional Dungeons is content complete.

Q: Help I can't open doors or press buttons or touch any blocks at all!

A: As of July 1st, 2021 I am aware of a serious problem where having any reasonable worldborder set will cause this issue. The temporary fix is to use other mods or plugins to disable or change the worldborder on a per-dimension basis. I am now working on changing how this mod generates dungeons to properly fix this issue.

Q: There are structures from other mods overlapping the dungeon. (Or, mobs from other mods are spawning besides what is configured.)

A: Those mods shouldn't be modifying void worlds. But if they are, hopefully they have a blacklist and you can add either dimdungeons:dungeon_dimension (the dimension id) or dimdungeons:biome_dungeon (the unique biome) to their blacklists.  

Current Major Version: 1.12 (June 5th) 

– Added a new block: the Key Enscribing Station. Modpacks have many options with this item!
– Added a new /gendungeon <x> <z> cheat.
– Added Hardcode Mode to the server config, where keys are consumed and portals are closed when someone passes through. Defaults to false. (The return portal always works.)
– Added a new craftable item: the Homeward Pearl.
– Enemy mob sets are now configurable in the common config, like how rooms are.
– Changed which enemies appear in those sets. Witches and Vindicators now spawn in advanced dungeons! (By default.)
– Another new config option: enemy health scaling. Defaults to 1.0x for tier 1 dungeons and 2.0x for tier 2.
– Many bugfixes.

Still Very New Version 1.11 (May 21st)

– Advanced dungeons now how a LARGE ROOM in them.
– Added a few other new rooms.
– Updated the models for the gold portal and crown blocks.
– The common config will now reset itself when I make changes to it. (Such as this update.)
– New log level setting in the config, for less log spam. (Particularly when creating dungeons.)
– Small bugfixes.
 

Mod Compatibility

Artifacts – Allows their mimic to spawn in the dungeon dimension.

End:Remastered – Their end portal frame can also activate keys.

Gravestones – I added gravestones:gravestones to the block protection whitelist.

Lootr – My dungeon chests are compatible with Lootr's chest replacement system.

Patchouli – Adds a guidebook which can help you build the portal and much more!
