Description
What does Distant Horizons do?
Simply put, it add simplified terrain past Minecraft's default view distance to improve performance and allow for longer draw distances.
Now you can finally enjoy that lookout tower you built on top of a mountain!

If you were having trouble with a1.5.2 try downgrading to a1.5.1 or a1.5.0.
a1.5.2 has been pulled due to incompatibility bugs.

A: Yes.
Q: Fabric?
A: Not any time soon.
Q: Shaders?
A: Hopefully in the future.
Q: Wait? I thought the mod was called the LOD mod!?
A: It was, we changed the name during the Alpha 1.5 update to: "Distant Horizons." We thought it would be easier to understand and remember.
Q: Is the mod in alpha or beta?
A: The mod is still in alpha. However because Curse Forge hides mods that don't have any Beta or Release files, we decided to release 1.5 with the beta flag even though it is still technically a alpha.
Q: Is there multiplayer support?
A: Yes
Although currently the mod is only client side and you have to explore chunks for the mod to use them.
Q: How do I change the mod settings?
A: Starting in your Minecraft folder go to the config folder, inside there should be a file named "lod.toml" which you can edit in notepad. An example file path would be something like this: "C:\Users\James\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\config\lod.toml"

Download the really awesome mod "Configured" and use their in game options menu.
Q: My game is stuttering help!
A: Open task manager and see if your CPU is at (or near) 100% usage.
If this is the case, in the config lower the threads for buffer building and world generation.
If that doesn't fix the problem make sure the distanceGenerationMode is at SURFACE or lower, FEATURES and SERVER are known to cause stuttering / lag.
Q: Does this work with player created structures?
A: Short answer: Yes!
Long answer: Yes, but you have to either load the chunks that have player created structures and/or use the distanceGenerationMode "SERVER" to generate LODs outside your view distance.
Q: When will the next version come out?
A: No idea, sorry.
Q: Will this be backported to 1.7.10 or 1.12?
A: Probably not, this mod requires Mixins which (as far as I am aware) are only available in forge version 1.14+.
(yes I know there is a mod for Mixins in 1.12, but when I tried it all it caused was pain, so I'm not going to attempt to use it)
Q: Will you add textures?
A: No. To improve performance, storage, and my own sanity textures will not be added.
Q: Is this compatible with mod X?
A: Probably; the mod doesn't change any of Minecraft's actual rendering, only adding onto it. So most mods shouldn't be an issue.
Most notably it should be compatible with any and all world generators and generator options.
The only mod that would be explicitly incompatible would be Cubic Chunks since it changes how chunks work.
Q: How do I get rid of the fog?
A: It depends on what fog you are talking about.
If the fog is on the fake chunks that can be changed in the mod config.
If the fog is on the normal Minecraft terrain then you have to install a mod like Optifine and turn the fog off that way.
