Feel The Curse
The Concept

Feel The Curse is a data pack inspired by the concept of the "Curse of the Abyss" from the anime "Made in Abyss", for those who hear about this for the first time, I will give a very short explanation about this 'Curse', how ever, if you want to know more, please visit:

Basically the Curse of the Abyss is a phenomenon that cause some symptoms that manifest on all living beings upon ascending while inside the Abyss. The Curse of the Abyss es also called "Strains of Ascent". It is know that the individual gets hit by the Curse by ascending 10 meters. These symptoms vary depending on how deep the the individual is, and they can go from headaches, to nausea, to limb numbness, to extreme pain, and eventually into some symptoms that end up killing the individual or even worse…

With that said, this data pack tries to simulate those effects as the player ascends from the deeps of the Overworld to the surface.

The Mechanics

Feel The Curse introduces the 7 Layers of the Abyss into Minecraft and are described below:

The 1st Layer
Strains of Ascent: Light dizziness and nausea.

The 2nd Layer
Strains of Ascent: Intense nausea, headaches, and numbness of limbs.

The 3rd Layer
Strains of Ascent: In addition to aforementioned effects, Vertigo combined with visual and auditory hallucinations.

The 4th Layer
Strains of Ascent: Intense pain throughout the body and bleeding from every orifice.

The 5th Layer
Strains of Ascent: Complete sensory deprivation, confusion and self-harming behavior.

The 6th Layer
Strains of Ascent: Loss of humanity or death, or under specific conditions, the Blessing.

The 7th Layer
Strains of Ascent: Certain death.

When you ascends being at any mentioned layer, you will suffer the effects described above, however, there is a way to avoid getting hit by the curse by the protection of some items called Cartridges.

This items can be crafted as shown bellow:

And while in the inventory they will protect you from suffering the symptoms, if you would get hit by the curse, a cartridge is destroyed instead.

** IMPORTANT: The cartridges will NOT protect you from the strains of ascension of the 7th Layer!

Before getting hit by the curse at each layer, you will start getting some minor symptoms that will warn you.

Do not panic! you can actually return to the surface without any cartridges!

The way it works, is that every time you go up, you will accumulate something I internally call "Curse Factor", as you go down, this curse factor will decrease and if you get to a point where you can't go any higher because you will get hit, just wait a few seconds and you will be cable to move upwards again.

Also the deeper you are, the more time it takes the curse factor to decrease by time.

Setup and Startup guide

** IMPORTANT: This data pack is NOT compatible with any other data packs that use 'Teams'! Do NOT join as a player named FTC!

This data pack support multiplayer and precisely 65535 players.
The resource pack included does not override any vanilla items/blocks/entities, etc…

1) Download the datapacks (both included in the same file) and the resource pack
2) Extract the FTC resource pack into your resourcepacks folder located inside your Minecraft directory
3) Extract the FTC and the RBCM data packs into your datapacks folder located inside your world
– FTC stands for: Feel The Curse
– RBCM stans for: Recipe Book Crafring Method (You will need this data pack to be able to craft Cartridges)
4) Load the world and run /function ftc:_init once, this will setup the datapack, You can also use this command to reset the data pack, if something brakes.
5) The host and every single player that join the game, have to run /function ftc:_player_join manually to by registered into FTC, this after the _init command has been executed at least once.

**IMPORTANT: Each time you run the _init function, every single player have to run the _player_join command again.

Make sure to set the volume of the Music in the settings to 0

/function ftc:_player_join -> Register player for FTC
/function ftc:_player_join_cb -> Register player for FTC (for command block)
/function ftc:_player_quit -> Unregister player from FTC
/function ftc:_player_quit_cb -> Unregister player from FTC (for command block)
/function ftc:_player_messages_dis -> Disables layer warning messages sent by FTC
/function ftc:_player_messages_dis_cb -> Disables layer warning messages sent by FTC (for command block)
/function ftc:_player_messages_en -> Enables layer warning messages sent by FTC
/function ftc:_player_messages_en_cb -> Enables layer warning messages sent by FTC (for command block)
/function ftc:_player_particles_dis -> Disables particles shown by FTC
/function ftc:_player_particles_dis_cb -> Disables particles shown by FTC (for command block)
/function ftc:_player_particles_en -> Enables particles shown by FTC
/function ftc:_player_particles_en_cb -> Enables particles shown by FTC (for command block)
/function ftc:_player_sound_dis -> Disables sfx and music played by FTC
/function ftc:_player_sound_dis_cb -> Disables sfx and music played by FTC (for command block)
/function ftc:_player_sound_en -> Enables sfx and music played by FTC
/function ftc:_player_sound_en_cb -> Enables sfx and music played by FTC (for command block)
/function ftc:give_cartridge -> Gives player a cartridge

Bugs

If a player that has been hit by the curse of the sixth layer exit the game while inside a portal, the entity that is bidden to that player may spawn in the wrong dimension, to fix this, just exit the portal, then disconnect from the world and finally join again.
