Description

Reduce or remove the hidden 5 tick server-side delay on blocking with shields.
(Not the cooldown it gets when the shield gets knocked away by an axe, that's different.)
Can be installed on the server and/or client, but has no effect when installed on the client… yet.
🏹| Clunky shields
Ever reacted just fast enough to raise your shield and still had a Vindicator one tap you straight through it?bonk "...howwwww"
Well, you guessed right: Minecraft has a hidden 5 tick wait time in the background when you raise your shield which is hardly represented by the animation at all.
This mod allows you to configure, or completely remove, that delay. And works with any item, vanilla or modded, which the base game's blocking delay would apply to.
👀| Will it break everything?
Check out the GitHub readme.
In terms of compatibility; the mod just, if necessary, changes the player's current use time of the item to a point where the game thinks the 5 tick delay has passed.
This means it should be compatible with everything unless a mod has an item that not only blocks like a shield but also uses the 'use time' in a way where up to a 5 tick difference matters.
But, if there are any woes, make an issue on the mod's GitHub issue tracker 🙂

responsive-shields.toml
Raise Time
(From 0 to 5. default: 0) The amount of time, in ticks, from when you right-click before the game will block attacks.
Enable Delay Override
(Default: true) Whether or not the effect of the mod is enabled.
Info:
- Setting Raise Time to 0 makes shields capable of blocking immediately.
- Setting Raise Time to 5 is no different from vanilla and is less efficient than setting the enable setting to false. Both effectively disable the mod.
- The client-side raise animation takes roughly one tick to complete. So setting Raise Time to 1 is a decent balance between responsiveness and not being able to blockhit as easily – which I think was the original intention of the delay.
