Welcome to The Afterlight!

"Stay out of the darkness, or you might regret it."

The Afterlight is an expansive mod that strives to add a new dangerous and eerie dimension to Minecraft. It adds four new biomes, each of them generating exclusively only in the new dimension, and quite a lot of other places to explore in those biomes as well.

The mod currently adds:

  • Four new biomes
  • Four new mobs (five if you count one that doesn't have much gameplay effect)
  • Over ten new plants that vary from biome to biome
  • Three new types of metals, including one that is slightly better than netherite
  • Farming of new plants in the dimension
  • Over ten new advancements
  • A new cave biome that generates deep underground in the dimension
  • Slight lore of past survivors in the dimension
  • And much more!

Biomes

  • The moonlight forest – A forest made of large trees that bear nutricious fruit, and harbor a new herbivore. Most plants glow in the dark, thus making the biome fairly easy to spot.
  • The moonlight swamp – Groups of small lakes with twisty plants rising out of the waters. Most areas in this biome are quite dark, making it dangerous to roam around in without proper protection.
  • Moonlight lowlands – A hilly biome with twisty plants, glowing crystals coming from beneath the ground, and various monsters.
  • Moonlight highlands – The darkest of all of the biomes, with minimum glowing plants. The biome also is even more hilly than the lowlands, and can be hard to get up to.
  • The glowing caves – Cave biome that generates commonly at deep levels, and harbors various glowing plants and crystals, making it a safe refuge from hostile mobs in the upper caves.

On top of all that, it also allows the player to pretty much have everything in the dimension that they need. What I mean by this, is that the player is actually able to start in the dimension with no gear whatsoever, getting most of the basic things like a furnace, a few vanilla tools, and other things from materials found in the dimension.

Getting to the dimension

To get to the dimension a player must mine underground in the overworld and collect a few resources. Mainly, they will need to find around 5-10 void rock and at least 2 moon crystals. Void rock can be found deep underground near diamond y-level, and can be mined with any level of pickaxe. Moon crystal, on the other hand, can be found as an ore that is relatively common at any y-level, but must be mined with a stone pickaxe or higher, or the crystals will not be harvested from the ore. Once the player has collected those resources, they must find (if they haven't already) an Afterlight shrine. These are structures that are pretty uncommon, generally speaking can only spawn in more flat biomes, and consist of a few new blocks. The most important of these blocks is the moon altar. The altar is also surrounded by pillars with odd runes on them, but those don't actually have any use and are completely unbreakable. If the altar is right clicked with a stick in hand, and two moon crystals in the player's inventory, the altar will create a staff of moonlight, provided that it is night-time at the time of the ritual. The altar will serve a similar purpose if right clicked with void rock, creating a new block called strange obsidian. Strange obsidian is the portal block, similarly to obsidian being the block used in the frame of a nether portal. One the frame has been built, right clicking the frame with the staff of moonlight will open the portal, causing particles to fly out of it. The dimension then can be entered and explored.

Note: It is usually advisable to gear up sufficiently before entering the Afterlight dimension. The mobs that dwell in the darkness can take down an unequiped player relatively easily, so it's usually a good idea to entere the dimension with at least some iron armor and weapons. Another thing to consider is that the moonlight forest is by far the most safe biome for the player to dwell in; it harbors high food amounts and wood, not to mention most hostile enemies don't dare venture into the light unless they can see a player.

Another thing that is advisable is to use the JEI (Just enough items) mod, just because it makes it so much easier to keep track of the recipes in the mod.

Feel free to leave feedback of the mod in the comments, but please do not ask for other minecraft versions to be compatible with this mod, as I will likely be unable to make one.

This mod should not be reposted on other sites. If you find it reposted on another site where it is not published by me, don't download it!
