Description
IMPORTANT: Requires Curios API 1.16.5
This is a FORGE mod, a Fabric version may come in the future.
Features
The Gems Project is a new mod that aims to improve Minecraft's progression system through balanced additions to all categories of game mechanics. Currently, this includes the following features:
Topaz, Sapphire, and Ruby Equipment

- Ore rarer than Diamond, can be mined with an Iron Pickaxe or above.
- Shards can be turned into gems by filling the crafting grid.
- Topaz tools and armor can be made through upgrading Netherite using the Smithing Table.
- Sapphire tools and armor can be made through upgrading Topaz using the Smithing Table.
- Ruby tools and armor can be made through upgrading Sapphire using the Smithing Table.
Bow and Crossbow Tier Systems

- Vanilla Bow is slightly nerfed to accommodate new tiers.
- The above change doesn't apply to the vanilla Crossbow because it was already underpowered enough.
- Slight retexture of the vanilla Crossbow to make it better match other wooden tools in terms of colour.
- All bows and crossbows up to Diamond can be crafted by using their respective ingredient instead of sticks.
- Netherite Bow/Crossbow can be crafted by upgrading a Diamond Bow/Crossbow at a Smithing Table.
- Topaz, Sapphire, and Ruby Bows/Crossbows can be crafted by upgrading each other at the Smithing Table, starting from Netherite.
Shield Tier System

- Vanilla Shield is slightly nerfed to accommodate new tiers.
- All shields up to Diamond can be crafted by using their respective ingredient instead of planks.
- Netherite Shield can be crafted by upgrading a Diamond Shield at a Smithing Table.
- Topaz, Sapphire, and Ruby Shields can be crafted by upgrading each other at the Smithing Table, starting from Netherite.
New Horse Armor Tiers
- From left to right: Chainmail, Emerald, Netherite, Topaz, Sapphire, Ruby, Plated Onyx.
- Don't you think it's odd how Mojang didn't add horse armor in Chainmail or Netherite? Me too, so I added it!
- Higher tiers have more protection for the horse, as you would expect.
Gemspark and Jewellery System

- Gemspark ore can be found in the overworld. Gemspark has ore, gems, blocks, but no shards.
- Gemspark can be used to craft Infused Ender Scales, an ingredient required for making Plated Onyx Equipment (see section below).
- Gemspark can also be used to make Gemspark jewellery, providing a stat bonus to Knockback Resistance.
- In the future, Gemspark will also be used for a new mechanic called 'Infusing'. This will be similar to enchanting, but for jewellery.
- Jewellery can be crafted with gold ingots, and then combined with overworld gems.
- Different gems provide different stat bonuses (eg. Emerald provides speed, Ruby provides attack damage, etc.)
- Jewellery receives durability damage in the same way that armor does, if you get hurt, a point of durability is removed.
Plated Onyx Equipment

- Onyx is a very rare ore found exclusively in The End. It can only be mined with a Netherite Pickaxe or above.
- Shards can be turned into gems by filling the crafting grid.
- Onyx can be turned into Plated Onyx Ingots by combining 4 Onyx with 4 Infused Ender Scales.
- Infused Ender Scales are made by surrounding regular Ender Scales with Gemspark, and then Ender Bones in each corner.
- Ender Scales and Ender Bones are dropped from the Ender Dragon.
- Ender Bones are also a great source of bones, providing 16 Bone from 1 Ender Bones.
- Armor, tools, bows, crossbows, and shields can be crafted by upgrading their Ruby counterpart with Plated Onyx Ingots at a Smithing Table.
- If you fall into the void, a full set of Plated Onyx armor sends you back to your spawn point with full health (never lose stuff in the void again).
- With OptiFine installed, Plated Onyx equipment glows in the dark!
Emerald Equipment
- Villagers love it! Equip a full set and receive a special trading bonus.
- Durability and efficiency similar to that of iron.
- Very high enchantability. Even higher than gold.
- This is different from typical Emerald armor mods because it actually has a purpose, yet isn't overpowered. If you're wanting the best prices, you'll definitely want to be wearing a full set of the green stuff while trading with villagers from now on.
- In the near-future, I plan to give the tools their own unique effects as well, like the sword starting with a base level of Looting, and the pickaxe starting with a base level of Fortune.
Experience Ore

- Experience Ore is a new type of ore that simply provides extra experience (currently between 5-15 orbs per ore).
- Experience Ore spawns in the Overworld, Nether, and End dimensions and can be mined with any pickaxe.
- Experience Ore is designed to further encourage mining and make things a little more interesting.
Fossils

- Fossils are new blocks that can be found lodged into the Earth and mined with a pickaxe.
- Like their large vanilla counterparts, Fossils can be found in the Overworld and the Nether.
- Currently, Fossils can be used as a decorative block to add a little extra detail to your builds, or smelted into 8 Bones.
Miscellaneous Changes
- Chainmail (a new item) can be crafted with Iron Ingots. This is used to craft Chainmail Armor and Chainmail Horse Armor.
- Rotten Flesh can be smelted into Leather at a Furnace.
- Horse armor, Saddles, and Name Tags can now be crafted.
- Blocks that couldn't be turned back into their non-block form now can (eg. Wool to String).
- New Advancements for different features of the mod.
Manual Installation

Planned Features
- Give Experience Ore an animated texture, like Experience Orbs.
- Other pieces of Plated Onyx equipment give special effects like the armor set does.
- Other pieces of Emerald equipment give special effects like the armor set does.
- Add stuff to other loot tables like chests/mobs.
- Spawner Fragments and Mob Effigies that can be combined to craft your own mob spawners.
- Re-implement Quiver (find a better way).
- Add in some vanilla-style tooltips.
- Rebalance various items.
- Infusing Station, used for infusing (enchanting equivalent) jewellery.
- Black Opal and White Opal, ores exclusive to the Nether, unsure of purpose currently.
- Difficult scaling system, doing Minecrafty things increases your World Level. As your World Level increases, certain aspects of the game scale up in difficulty, like taking more damage from mobs and them being harder to kill. The further you venture underground will also increase the difficulty of mobs.
- Villager-based quest system, possible new currency system involving coins.
- Life Quartz, crystal-type material that can be found underground to permanently increase HP.
- Rare and unique 'special' items, such as weapons or equipables, that can be found in chests or as rare drops from certain enemies.
- Glowsticks, throwable light sources that can be used underwater.
- Luma Torches, underwater torches.
- Wraith/Ghost mob, flies through blocks, transparent ghost-like appearance.
- Modern take on the sky dimension.
