Material Library

Important! This is made for Forge!

What is this?

This is an updated version of my ancient old Mod named Material Evolution, but only serves as material library for now. I've extracted all materials, blocks, and items, and allow them to naturally spawn in the world during world generation, as ores, patches of lakes, and randomly spawned items of all stone/nugget variants. Due to its nature as library, all other parts of the original mod, will be later imported. This refers to any of the metallurgist realism, and difficulty features of the original mod. Recipes, for example, are made styled like in vanilla MC. So you can, for example, easily smelt ingots from ores without any intermediate steps. This mod library introduces 60+ blocks of type: ore, (gem)ore, stone, fuel, and organics. It will also introduce various new recipes for both, vanilla items, and items created by this mod. It furtherly provides 60+ item variants related to "non" industrial metallurgy, like nugget, ingot, ounce, and gravels of all the ores. On top of that it will also introduce oil "lakes", and some other organic materials, like pitch, bitumen, and glue, as well as items of type "naturals", like canvas, fur, and tinder. As specialty there are variants of "blind" ores, that will yield…well…you'll see.

Can you give any info on all object variants?

Sure. Refer to this formulas:

I. Metals: name: ore variants || item variants || special info

  • Antimony   : Stibnite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material, has native spawn
  • Brass         : no ores || ingots, ounces || alloy result
  • Bronze       : no ores || ingots, ounces || alloy result
  • Copper      : Azurite ore, Chalcopyrite ore, Malachite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material, has native spawn, has gloss variants
  • Gold          : Calaverite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel || has native spawn, uses vanilla objects
  • Hard Lead : no ores || ingots, ounces || alloy result
  • Iron           : Haematite ore, Magnetite ore, Pyrite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material, uses vanilla objects, has gloss variants
  • Lead         : Galena ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material, has native spawn
  • Mangan    : Bog Iron ore, Braunstein ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || comes as steel variant
  • Mercury    : Cinnabar ore || bottle || no specialty
  • Nickel       : Garnierite ore, Nickeline ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel || has native spawn
  • Platin        : no ores || ingots, ounces, nuggets || has native spawn
  • Silver        : Akanthit ore, Stromeyerite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel || has native spawn, has gloss variants
  • Steel         : no ores || ingots, ounces || alloy result
  • Tin            : Stannite ore, Cassiterite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel || alloy material
  • Titan         : Ilmenite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || comes as steel variant
  • Zinc          : Sphalerite ore, Zinkit ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material

II. Stones:

  • All stone variants have a brick equivalent
  • Granite and Sandstone use the vanilla resource
  • Stone variants are: Basalt, Bluestone, Diabase, Granite, Jade, Limestone, Marble, Quartzite, Sandstone, Slate, Tuff

III. Organics:

  • All organic variants serve primarily as fuel or will add new vanilla item recipes without replacing the original recipes
  • Organic variants are: Bitumen, Black Coal, Brown Coal, Graphite, Oil, Pitch, Sulfur, Saltpeter
  • Pitch, and Bitumen have no use and exist merely as material base for now
  • You can craft Bitumen from Oil, and Pitch
  • You can craft Gunpowder from Coal variants, Sulfur, and Saltpeter

IV. Naturals:

  • Natural variants are: canvas, fossil bone, fur, glue, tinder
  • canvas, and tinder has no purpose other than material base
  • you can make glue from bones, and fur
  • you can produce tinder from vanilla materials
  • glue can be used to make strings

V. Gems:

  • Gem variants are: Agate, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Azurite, Beryllium, Citrine, Diamond, Emerald, Garnet, Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, Morion, Onyx, Ruby, Saphire, Topaz
  • Diamond, Emerald, and Lapis Lazuli use vanilla resource
  • All gem variants yield dyes

Why do you limit yourself to those materials? I see no "modern" materials!

Because the original mods scope was evolving around pre industrial metallurgy standards, and was strongly inspired by Georgius Agricola, and his writings. So in return, all materials that were not used during the ancient/medieval/renaissance eras, are not covered. The best example here is Aluminum, which there is virtually no way to get it, without electricity. I also found that the way Minecraft Survival was played, had a strong inclination for pre industrial metallurgy logics. I loved the idea of combining the whole survival aspect with "rudimentary" metallurgy. I do however not exclude adding more material variants in future versions.

What's with all the other parts of your past mod?

Well, they will get their dedicated mod for future. So you will get all the tools, weapons, and armors, as well as any of the difficulty settings, and misc items, I promise.

Will you update for 1.16.5, 1.17, and beyond?

Yes, once I've finished porting all the other mods content to 1.16.4. I hope to finish this within the next 4-8 weeks, and I hope I will make it in time before 1.18 shows up.

You've mentioned Oil lakes, and "native" drops?

Well, it basically is exactly that. Oil lakes which you can yield Oil from. Natural item drops of all stone, and nugget variants, as indicator for equivalent materials to be found when digging into the ground, at this position. So if you find a Silver nugget somewhere on the ground, there's a high chance you will find more of it on lower layers.

Any configuration options?

Yes, the mod comes with two configuration files. One for the whole ore generation feature, and one for all other options. For now the second one doesn't have a lot configure options, but I promise to add a lot more for the next version. The ore configuration allows you to import, and generate any possible ore, from any possible mod you've installed, as long as you know the ore ID. Just use the preset configuration file as template to add custom ores, and use an array list to exclude vanilla ores, if you want to, like that ["vanillaOreID01", "vanillaOreID02", "vanillaOreID03"]. In order to use the preset you will need to start the game once, exit, and start again to allow writing the default ore configuration. From there you're good to go.

Is this save to be used for servers?

I don't know. I don't play online. The only multiplayer I play is with my kids, on a Lan server. Which technically is a server. I've tested the mod for 4-5 hours straight without any issues. Let me know how it works out for you.
